We get regular DMs via our Instagram page asking us for recommendations in Sunnyside and one recurring topic is where to get vegan food in the neighborhood. Recently, local Vanessa R. suggested we compile a short list to share-out and here we are!

Below, please find our second quick guide with recommendations by Elizabeth L., Barbara M., Vanessa R., and from Instagram. See the previous guide here.

Thank you to Vanessa R. for submitting this post suggestion!

Always Sunny Deli & Grocery

3945 43rd Ave, Sunnyside, New York 11104

(718) 383-6779

With a majority of Always Sunny’s menu being vegan, this family-owned Sunnyside deli on 43rd Avenue could be one of your go-tos. The list is expansive with vegan alternatives for your classic deli sandwiches, wraps, and desserts. Portions are generous; our last Sunnyside Vegan Burrito was consumed as two meals. Don’t forget to complement your visit with one of their nutritious smoothies and freshly squeezed juices, like the Heart Beet of Sunnyside. Must try items include the Indian Samosa Sandwich and Air Fried Mini Vegetable Samosas.

Green Leafs Juice Bar

41-51 49th Street, Woodside, NY 11377

(917) 396-4276

Green Leafs, owned by duo Nube and Armando, is known locally for their menu of healthy food options and for their popular Açaí bowls. Some say it may be the best in the neighborhood. The juice bar’s vegan items include fresh juices, the Vegan Wrap, superfruit smoothies, and quinoa bowls. They also serves organic coffee and teas and hot food items!

Dawa’s NYC

51-18 Skillman Ave, Woodside, NY 11377

718-899-8629

Located in Woodside, family-owned restaurant Dawa’s serves up Himalayan and New American dishes by co-owner Chef Dawa and her father Chef Ngodup. Using locally farmed ingredients in many of their dishes, the menu also bolster several dishes that are vegan, such as the Tsel-Baley, Pharsi, and Chili Cauliflower. The business has also added retail items to their storefront, such as momo sauce, Oslo coffee beans, granola, and other condiments.

Philomena’s Pizza

4116 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside, NY 11104

718-255-1778

Did you know? Chef David Acocella’s Broccoli Rabe personal pie is vegan and made with Creme di Ceci (Chickpea Purée with Truffle Oil), Broccoli Rabe (sautéed with Garlic), and topped with olive oil and red pepper flakes. We could already imagine the flavors together and it sounds fantastic.

Bolivian Llama Party

44-14 48th Ave, Queens, NY 11377

347-370-9102

You can’t go wrong with Bolivian Llama Party’s Vegan Carnitas Jackfruit Sandwich or Aji Jackfruit Chola and a refreshing superfruit juice by the Oropeza family. In the Carnitas Jackfruit Sandwich, the jackfruit is coated with aji peanut sauce with avocado, pickled vegetables, vegan mayo, vegan parmesan, and served with vegan buns.

Aubergine Cafe

49-22 Skillman Ave, Queens, NY 11377

718-899-1735

Opened in 2003 on Skillman Avenue, Aubergine Cafe is mostly known for their coffee, signature drinks and small bites. However, their menu also includes a fair amount of vegan items such as Pesto on Ciabatta Panini, Vegan Burger, and Apple Pumpkin Pie. Thank you @halfopint8 and Barbara M. for highlighting Aubergine Cafe’s menu for us!

Sunnyside Cake Bakery

Online

Recommended by local Elizabeth L., the online Sunnyside Cake Bakery has been open since 2019. Owner and head baker Kevin Chojnowski is dedicated to providing vegan baked goods, offering freshly made donuts, bread, pies, cookies, and even Strawberry and Rhubarb Preserve. Get your orders in early, all items sell out fast!
